Our Impact
The Oruuua Primary School and Hostel has about 196 children ranging in age from 5 to 20. Most students stay in the hostel, which is a dormitory with meals, because they come from too far away to return to their homes every day (a few live close by). Some students come from 100 miles away. The students come from the Ovaherero, Damara, Ovambo, and San tribes.
The school and the surrounding community have electricity. However, many of the surrounding villages where the kids come from do not have access to electricity and often share a water pump. When the students are staying in the hostel, they have electricity to do their homework.
The community provides some through donations, but that is undependable and controlled by the success of the growing season. When the Namibian Rural Education Fund started the first donation in 2018, the school had no food for the new year, and was facing the prospect of closing.
Our current and future projects focus on building sustainable support for the school.
